About The Eye Bank

Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye BankThe Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank was founded in 1957 by a committed group of local Lions Club members. Early Eye Bank volunteers enlisted the help of area police to transport donated eye tissue from funeral homes to area hospitals for use in corneal transplantation. Since our inception, the Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank has facilitated the sight restoration of more than 21,000 people.

Today, the Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank is staffed by nearly 30 employees specializing in the procurement, testing, preservation, evaluation, and distribution of donated eye tissue. The Eye Bank operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, serving 37 counties, reaching west to State College, south to Maryland, north to New York, and east to New Jersey. A Board of Directors made up of Lions Club volunteers provides governance and fundraising support for the Eye Bank’s world-class service.

The Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization fully accredited by the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA). We are FDA-registered and have successfully completed all required FDA inspections.
