Our Mission

Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye BankAt the Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank, our mission is simple: to procure and distribute corneal tissue for sight restoration and the improvement of visual impairments (and to provide quality tissue for medical research seeking cures for disorders and diseases).

Behind every cornea donation, and behind every effort of the Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank, is the sincere desire to help those who may be unnecessarily in the dark. Over 30,000 Americans and hundreds of thousands of others around the world suffer from corneal blindness each year. It is estimated that 10 million people worldwide could recover their eyesight through corneal donation and transplantation.

There is no substitute for human corneal tissue—all of the Eye Bank’s efforts are wholly dependent upon the availability of donated corneas. The decision to become a cornea donor is an act of extraordinary generosity and a unique way to give the gift of sight to those in need. By becoming a cornea donor, you can virtually ensure the restoration or improvement of the eyesight of two people.

We encourage you to join the thousands of Pennsylvanians who have already made the decision to become cornea donors. For more information on becoming a donor, contact the Eye Bank today or call 1-800-NE-PA-EYE (637-2393).
